Baz App World Cup Trivia
During FIFA 2022, Baz launched a World Cup trivia feature to capitalize on the tournament’s global momentum and boost user engagement within their fintech app. The goal was to design a reusable trivia system that elevated Baz’s brand visibility during the world’s most-watched sporting event, while offering users an engaging way to test their football knowledge and win prizes.
Process
Competitive Benchmarking
Analyzed 12 trivia and gamification apps (including Trivia 360, Duolingo, Candy Crush, and LaLiga Trivia) to understand interaction patterns and engagement strategies. Key findings showed that immediate feedback, countdown timers, leaderboards, progress indicators, and multimedia all significantly enhance user retention.
Task Flow Development
Mapped multiple user scenarios including happy path, error states, and edge cases. Iterated flows to reduce friction, simplify redemption, and clarify win/loss states. Finalized a user journey with intuitive entry points, responsive feedback, and streamlined prize redemption.
Design & Validation
Created low and high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes incorporating benchmark insights. Collaborated cross-functionally to validate flows and interactions before implementation.
Solution
We designed a reusable trivia system that integrated seamlessly into Baz’s app and could be adapted for future campaigns. The experience offered quick entry from the home screen, intuitive gameplay with immediate feedback, clear progress indicators, and a straightforward prize redemption process. This created an engaging user flow that boosted participation during FIFA 2022 while establishing a scalable foundation for future gamified features.
